R&D on Helium Gas Turbine Element Technology

HTGR hydrogen electricity cogeneration system can employ helium gas turbine. The helium gas turbine system of HTGR can achieve approximately 1.5 times (approximately 50%) of power generation efficiency compared with steam turbine system of LWR.

We have been conducting R&Ds for compressor and maintenance technology. As for the compressor development, we have established an aerodynamic design method with a Japanese gas turbine vendor. We also achieved successful operation of axial compressor with 1/3 scale facility. Regarding the maintenance technology development, we are investigating diffusion behavior of silver in turbine alloys by experiment and simulation with the aim of developing heat resistant alloy which can reduce deposition of fission product on the turbine blade.
