Waste Size Reduction Processing

Description of waste size reduction processing

Large-sized wastes, such as tanks, are cut into small pieces in the size reduction area of the Waste Size Reduction and Storage Facility (WSRSF). After size reduction, the wastes are packaged in 200 liter drums and stored in the downstairs storage area.
The size reduction area has a washing device, a mechanical cutting device, a thermal cutting device, and a decontamination device. These devices are applied according to the contamination level and the shape of the wastes.
A part of the stored waste in the storage area is transferred to the Waste Volume Reduction Facility (WVRF) in order to reduce the volume of wastes and to produce packages for final disposal.
