JAEA's Vision Future image
Introduction of JAEA’s researches
JAEA works on R&D in various fields with the aim of realizing a
carbon-neutral,
resource-efficient society as well as
contributing to human society.

Development of HTGR
By combining HTGRs and renewable energies, JAEA can contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society by 2050.

Development of Fast Reactor
Fast reactors make it possible to effectively use of uranium resources and reduce the toxicity of high-level radioactive waste using fast neutrons*.

Utilizing Valuable Resources Lying in Japan
Depleted uranium and radioactive waste, which are generated in the process of nuclear energy use, can be transformed into various resources.
JAEA’s R&D results have broad applications beyond the nuclear field

Discovery of a mystery of “Absolute darkness” with quantum beams
A possibility of applying lacquer technology to catalyst technology is suggested. This technology is also useful for non-destructive testing of historical materials.

Pin-point attack on cancer cells using alpha-rays generated from medical isotopes
We aim at domestic production and commercialization of actinium 225 which is expected to be effective on various types of cancer.

Passing on limited rare metals to the future
– Venture company born from JAEA -
A technology born from our research on element partitioning of spent nuclear fuel contributes to stable supply of rare metals in the future.

New superconductive state: Discovery in super-pure single crystal of uranium superconductor
It is expected that a new superconductive quantum device for next-generation quantum computers be developed if a method of controlling various superconductive states is found.
