JPDR(Japan Power Demonstration Reactor)
Dismantling of Facility Components and Demolition of Building Structures
For demolition of the JPDR, its components including the turbine generator, condenser, heat exchangers, and piping, which were slightly contaminated, were dismantled by workers using conventional methods and tools. Prior to demolition of the building, the surfaces of the concrete structure (wall, floor, and ceiling) were decontaminated and measurements were conducted to verify that no contamination remained on the surface. Demolition of the buildings of the turbine generator, nuclear reactor vessel, and the stack was conducted. All of the dismantling process was completed by FY1995, which concluded with leveling of the former building site.
