Efforts toward the nuclear disaster prevention
General management of safety and health,Supervision of emergency contacts and reports to all relevant ministries and agencies in case of accidents and disasters.
Emergency correspondence of the Nuclear Science Research Institute (NSRI)
We have established the “Accident Countermeasure Regulations of NSRI” in order to manage potentially dangerous situations, to deal with emergencies, and to contact the relevant ministries and local governments immediately in case of accidents or failures involving potentially dangerous situations at the nuclear facilities of NSRI or during transportation of radioactive materials.
Emergency contacts and reports
Any person who encounters an emergency situation should notify immediately to the relevant officials of NSRI. The officials contact and notify to the relevant ministries and local governments and set up the Headquarters from which to arrange for protective measures.
At the scene of the accident, people in the vicinity conduct the necessary first response activities to prevent secondary accidents or damage.
Organization of Emergency Measures in the NSRI
NSRI determines to establish an Accident Measures Headquarters including an On-site Command office, Support Forces, and Support Centers to deal with an emergency.
The Headquarters manages the situation, conducts measures for closure of the accident, and also reports situation information to relevant ministries and local governments.
The building which originally housed NSRI Headquarters was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11th, 2011. The Safety Management Building, a seismically isolated structure with an emergency power generator , is under construction.
Disaster Drill
NSRI holds general emergency drills twice a year with about 250 people, to prepare for such cases as an extraordinary release of radioactive materials, large-scale fire accidents, etc.
