To Promote understanding of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security
The mission of the ISCN is "to contribute to the well-being and prosperity of human society by improving the technical, institutional and capacity-building aspects of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security in order to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and nuclear terrorism". In order to achieve this, it is essential that the general public understands the importance of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security, and we are actively working to achieve this.
International Forum on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Security
ISCN organizes the International Forum on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Security every year. ISCN invites worldwide government officials and experts on nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security to participate in panel discussions focusing on hot topics to deepen our understanding of various issues and plan future actions. The International Forum also serves as a platform to share information regarding ISCN's activities. The severe international climate of FY2023, in terms of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security indicated the need for nations to review their efforts toward realizing energy security and a decarbonized society and developing innovative nuclear reactors, including small modular reactors (SMRs). Therefore, the theme of the forum's annual meeting was “Toward a sustainable society through the peaceful use of nuclear energy and a world without nuclear weapons”. The forum discussed its vision for realizing a sustainable society; strengthening nuclear nonproliferation, which is indispensable for realizing a world free of nuclear weapons; and directions for future actions of Japan and the international community. Young people who are leading the next generation presented their opinions in the Student Session of the International. (Hybrid in-person and online event, 218 participants.)
