International Workshop on Nuclear Forensics following on Nuclear Security Summit

During the 2010 Nuclear Security Summit, the Japan Government made pledges to increase its contributions to the international community in the area of nuclear security. One specific promise was to further develop its nuclear forensics and analysis technologies within a three-year period. To work towards fulfillment of this vision, JAEA will host a workshop to develop a common understanding of how best to contribute to the international nuclear forensics framework and to establish a work plan to accomplish these goals. Day one of the workshop will include high-level views of the present status and challenges in nuclear forensics, as well as technical activities and collaborations. Day two will consist of discussions that focus on technical needs, tools, data sharing and archiving, quality control activities, and a work session devoted to drafting a program plan.

At this time, we are soliciting technical presentations on the topics of nuclear forensics technologies and research opportunities, analysis of nuclear forensics data, data management and data sharing, and enhanced quality assurance through the development and use of standards and round robin tests. Further, we would ask all participants to work with us over the two days of the workshop to define and shape a nuclear forensics program plan for Japan's contributions.
