Recruitment theme
Application of Machine-learning techniques in the field of nuclear engineering
(Summary)
Computer science techniques are increasingly being utilized for research in the field of nuclear engineering. This is because important questions relating to the R&D of nuclear fuels, materials, and the design of reactor systems are difficult to address using experiments or with limited observations. In particular, machine-learning techniques have been effective for gaining new insights into certain problems. For example, sparse modeling has been key for estimating the distributions of radioactive materials and air dose rates in environmental dynamics research for Fukushima Prefecture. For this research theme, the applicant will apply cutting edge AI and machine learning techniques to tackle research problems pertinent to JAEA. The applicant will work in collaboration with other JAEA departments to conduct R&D on e.g. nuclear fuels, materials, fluid dynamics, structural analysis, and the dynamics of radionuclides in the environment. The role will involve selecting suitable AI techniques for the problem at hand, implementing them, and analyzing the results.
