    2. Recruitment theme

      Theme: Advanced research on long-term stability of geological environment
      This research theme aims to develop elemental techniques for precise estimation of short- and long-term geomorphic/geologic histories, including the processes, patterns and rates, based on approaches of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geomorphology, geochronology, groundwater science and Quaternary research.
      This research theme is carried out as part of projects funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). This recruitment assumes that METI entrusts the project to JAEA.
      The subthemes concerning this recruitment are as below:

      (1) Research and development for better understanding the Quaternary geological environment change by means of diverse research field such as geochronology, geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geomorphology or groundwater science.

    5. Qualification requirements

      (1) Applicants must have a PhD degree in the related research field (including applicants who will receive their doctoral degree by the time of employment). Applicants must be within 8 years of receiving their PhD.

      (2) Having work experience on research related to any of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geomorphology, geochronology, groundwater science or Quaternary science (especially integrated approach with low-temperature thermochronology such as ESR or OSL methods, geophysics/geochemistry and geology to evaluate groundwater flow or fault activity, geomorphic/geologic analyses using GIS, geological investigation based on field and thin-section work, instrumental analysis and pretreatment of trace elements, seismic tomography).

    6. Terms of employment

      (1) Salary: approximately JPY400,000 per month (including social insurance fee and tax)

      (2) Treatment: Commutation and housing allowances are paid according to employees.

      (3) Working Hours: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. (There is possibility to work over time)

      (4) Intermission: 12:00pm-13:00pm

      (5) Holiday: Weekend (Saturday and Sunday), national holidays, year-end holidays, paid holidays.

      (6) Social Insurance, etc.: Health insurance, welfare pension insurance, corporate pension fund, unemployment insurance, workers accident compensation insurance.

      (7) Welfare: Institute family resident and dormitory are available.

      (8) Trial period: No trial period.

      (5) One or two letter(s) of recommendation (the format is free) written by senior researcher who well knows your research and personality.
      * Including one from the current supervisor is better.
      * Letter(s) written by a JAEA employee will not be accepted.

    10. Document examination

      Examinees will be decided based on the review of application documents. The review result will be notified by a letter.

      The result will be announced by a letter after the recruitment examination.

    15. Contract term (tentative)

      From October 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023
      (The contract term can be extended up to September 30, 2027 upon annual review of research achievements and upon the funding)

    16. Travel Expenses

      We will cover your travel expenses in Japan for the recruitment examination in accordance with JAEA travel allowance regulations.

    18. Points to note

      (1) Applicants who pass the Recruitment examination are supposed to submit medical certification.

      (2) Candidates without Japanese Nationality are required to obtain a necessary visa status to work in Japan by the date of adoption.

    19. Treatment of personal information

      Submitted personal information will be used for recruitment only. Personal information of employee will be used for employment control. Other personal information will be scrapped 1 year after submission.
