Recruitment theme
Study on advanced methodology for neutronics/thermal-hydraulics coupling simulation.
Neutronics/thermal-hydraulics coupling calculations are required for core design and safety analysis of light water reactors. Recent advances in computer hardware and software technologies enables us to perform very accurate calculations with a single-physics code of neutronics or thermal-hydraulics. There have, however, been difficulties to perform high-hidelity and high-precision coupled calculations of neutronics and thermal-hydraulics.
In this study, the senior post doctoral fellow develops an advanced coupling methodology, where the Monte Carlo methods are used for neutronics calculations and the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used for thermal-hydraulics calculations. For neutronics Monte Carlo (MC) codes, he/she develops 1) a method to calculate efficienty all regions in the core, 2) a method to process efficiently all the regions with different atomic densities and temperatures, 3) an acceleration method for large-scale calculations of items 1) and 2). He/she also develops a mapping method of MC combinatorial geometry and CFD mesh geometry. Futhermore, he/she investigates convergence of neutronics/thermal-hydraulics coupling calculations.
