Analytical research on heat transfer among core materials under severe accident conditions of BWR
      (Summary)
At the accident of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F) with boiling water reactors (BWRs), it has been assumed that fuel and structural materials that became extremely hot in the core fell into the lower plenum part of the pressure vessel, a part of which might have remained there and a part of which might have passed through the pressure vessel and flowed out to the pedestal region. The migration of such core materials (debris) and the debris properties after the migration significantly depend on the thermal conditions of debris in the intermediate stage. In this research, we focus on the lower plenum as a main objective to simulate the cooling characteristics of debris by coolant based on CFD (Cmputer Fluid Dynamics) model including the following assumptions: (1) the invasion of localized liquid phase water into debris, (2) the evaporation at high temperature inside debris, and (3) the condensation at low temperature including the inside of debris, and finally to quantify the thermal condition of the debris.
