      Research on nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security projects (nuclear detection and measurement technology development)
      Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security and Human Resource Development is engaged in technological development related to nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security to contribute to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This recruitment is for a Fixed Term Researcher to nuclear detection and measurement technology development as part of the Center's ongoing activities.
      The selected fixed term researcher will develop radiation measurement technologies, including radiation mapping technologies, for the detection of nuclear and radioactive materials over a wide area, with the aim of strengthening nuclear security in the event of large-scale incidents, as well as developing non-destructive measurement technologies for nuclear materials in highly radioactive substances using external neutron sources.

    5. Term of Contract

      One year contract
      In principle, from October 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
      (For those who are recognized as having achieved a certain level of performance, the contract can be renewed for a period of five years, subject to obtaining the budget for the "Project for Strengthening Nuclear Security," a project subsidized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
      *There is a path to promotion to a permanent staff position for those who have achieved excellent research results after being hired.

    6. Conditions of service

      (1) Compensation: Annual salary based on ability and performance.

      (2) Allowances, etc.: Commuting and housing allowances are paid in the same manner as for staff members.

      (3) Working hours: 9:00 to 17:30 * Overtime work may be required.

      (4) Break time: 12:00-13:00

      (5) Holidays and leave: 2 days off per week (Sat., Sun.), national holidays, year-end and New Year vacations, annual paid vacations, special vacations, etc.

      (6) Various insurances: Health insurance, employee pension insurance, corporate pension fund, unemployment insurance, workers' accident compensation insurance

      (7) Housing: Family housing, dormitories for singles and single employees, etc.

      (8) Trial period: Trial period available (6 months)

    7. Qualification requirements

      (1) Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have at least one year of research experience as a full-time researcher such as post-doctoral fellow after obtaining a doctoral degree.

      (2) Applicants should have basic knowledge of safeguards and nuclear security, as well as experience in technical development related to radiation measurement, such as neutron and gamma ray measurement, and research and development utilizing computer simulation.

      * A letter from the current supervisor is best.
      * Letter(s) written by a JAEA employee will not be accepted.

    11. Document review

    19. Points to note

      (1) Those who are offered employment will be required to submit a separate health certificate (within 6 months) that includes information on height, weight, eyesight, urinalysis, and chest x-ray.

      (2) If you are not a Japanese citizen, please obtain the status of residence necessary to work at the Organization in Japan by the scheduled date of employment.

      Personal information submitted will be used for the purpose of employment selection. Personal information of those who are selected for employment will continue to be used for post-employment management. Personal information of other applicants will be destroyed after one year from the date of submission.
