Recruitment theme
Theme: Research and development of isotope geochronology, geology, and geochemistry for better understanding geological environment change.
This research theme aims to develop elemental techniques for precise estimation of short- and long-term geomorphic/geologic histories, including the processes, patterns and rates, based on approaches of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geomorphology, isotope geochronology, groundwater science and Quaternary research.
This research theme is carried out as part of projects funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). This recruitment assumes that METI entrusts the project to JAEA.

Qualification requirements
(1) Applicants must have a PhD degree in the related research field (including applicants who will receive their doctoral degree by the time of employment). Applicants must be within 8 years of receiving their PhD.
(2) Having work experience on research related to any of geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geomorphology, isotope geochronology, groundwater science or Quaternary science (especially the candidate should have knowledge of geology, isotope analysis by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), and chemical pretreatment for these methods, etc., and experience in evaluating volcanic and igneous activity and faulting and topographic change using isotopic dating such as U-Pb and U-Th dating of geological samples is highly desirable).
(3) Applicants with a history as a postdoctoral researcher at JAEA are not eligible to apply.
Terms of employment
(1) Salary: approximately JPY400,000 per month (including social insurance fee and tax)
(2) Treatment: Commutation and housing allowances are paid according to employees.
(3) Working Hours: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
(4) Intermission: 12:00pm-13:00pm
(5) Holiday: Weekend (Saturday and Sunday), national holidays, year-end holidays, paid holidays.
(6) Social Insurance, etc.: Health insurance, welfare pension insurance, corporate pension fund, unemployment insurance, workers accident compensation insurance.
(7) Welfare: Institute family resident and dormitory are available.
(8) Trial period: 6 months.

(5) One or two letter(s) of recommendation (the format is free) written by senior researcher who well knows your research and personality.

* Including one from the current supervisor is better.

Contract term (tentative)
From May 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024
(The contract term can be extended up to August 30, 2026 upon annual review of research achievements and upon the funding by METI)
Travel Expenses
We will cover your travel expenses in Japan for the recruitment examination in accordance with JAEA travel allowance regulations.
