Recruitment Field
(1)Research field:
Basic research and development for decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
(2)Research theme
Research and development on radiation effects for long-term storage and management of radioactive materials
(Summary)
At TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F), radioactive materials such as secondary waste from contaminated water treatment and fuel debris are generated and must be safely stored for a long period of time.
Regarding the risk of hydrogen (H2) combustion and explosion, R & D is currently underway in a national project on “advanced methods for predicting H2 generation” based on the radiation effects of radioactive materials. However, the radioactive materials have diverse and complex compositions and structures (complex systems) and emit -, -, and -rays simultaneously (combined irradiation fields), so existing knowledge and technology alone are insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to gain a broad and deep understanding of not only radiation-induced phenomena but also related physical and chemical phenomena, and then investigate the radiation effects to achieve the “advanced methods”.
This extremely challenging and pioneering R & D is being promoted by Decommissioning Investigation Group, CLADS, with the aim of implementing it at the 1F decommissioning site.
In this recruitment, we are looking for people who will be responsible for the above R & D on the radiation effects for the long-term storage and management of radioactive materials for the 1F decommissioning. In particular, we are looking for people with specialized knowledge in radiation physics and chemistry, experimental and computational chemistry, and nuclear engineering, as well as experience in R & D related to radiolysis and irradiation effects through experiments using accelerators and calculations using reaction and radiation transport analysis codes.
Also, in the future, we hope that this person will lead fields such as radiation research and play an active role as a team leader. For this reason, it is desirable to have achievement as representative of competitive funds, etc., experience in management such as research promotion with external institutions, and communication skills in foreign languages such as English.
