Toward prediction of the radioactive material behavior in a nuclear reactor
—Developing a database of cesium "chemistry" in a severe accident—

To safely carry out decommissioning and dismantling of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station of the Tokyo Electric Power Company, it is crucial to manage radiation exposure during each work task such as fuel debris removal. To ascertain information needed for this purpose, like the deposition state of cesium and other radioactive materials in the nuclear reactor, radioactive material behavior in a severe accident has to be evaluated more accurately.

Thus, a database called "ECUME" has been developed to enable prediction of ”chemistry” which significantly influence the radioactive material behavior in a nuclear reactor. JAEA will contribute to enhance accuracy of the prediction of radioactive material behavior through application of this "ECUME" to severe accident analysis code.

This database can also be applied to the prediction in existing light water reactors and various nuclear power facilities, and may help further improvement of their safety.
