Report on the IAEA General Conference Side Event!
-Expanding New Horizon through Synergy with Renewables, Sustainability, and Ubiquitous Use of Nuclear Science & Technology -

On September 16, in the margin of the IAEA General Conference held in Vienna, Austria, we held a side event under the theme “Expanding New Horizon through Synergy with Renewables, Sustainability, and Ubiquitous Use of Nuclear Science & Technology.”

This year marks the 20th anniversary of JAEA which has inherited the legacy of its predecessor organizations by contributing to IAEA member states in the fields of safeguards and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The event provided an opportunity to share JAEA’s cutting-edge technology, as well as the Vision to harness the power of nuclear science and technology towards the new nuclear era. We were honored to welcome Mr. TRAN Chi Thanh, President of Viet Nam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) as an invited speaker.

Following the opening remarks by Mr. KOGUCHI Masanori, President of JAEA, who introduced the Vision of JAEA, Ms. Najat MOKHTAR, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications of IAEA, presented the IAEA’s activities in the field of nuclear science and applications. The side event proceeded with presentations based on JAEA’s three key concepts of the Vision “Synergy, Sustainable, Ubiquitous”. JAEA introduced the latest activities focusing on “Synergy” and “Ubiquitous”, whereas the President TRAN of VINATOM featured their R&D activities on expanding benefits of nuclear science and technology in Viet Nam.

The event concluded with the closing remarks by H.E. Mr. KAIFU Atsushi, Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Japan to the IAEA.

JAEA will continue to pursue the potential of nuclear science and technology through cooperation with the IAEA and its member states.
