I heartily congratulate Dr. YOSHIKAWA Masaji, former president of JAERI, won Russian authoritative “Global Energy International Prize”. As a co-chair of the ITER Board, Dr. Yoshikawa had a key role in the ITER Engineering Design Activity with Academician Evgeniy Velikhov and Dr. Robert Aymar from July 1992 to July 2001. He also strongly promoted Japan's contribution for ITER Project. We are on the verge of ITER construction start, which is the result of his valuable efforts for many years. Based on his splendid achievement, JAEA continues to make utmost efforts to construct and operate ITER, as well as to advance toward practical use of nuclear fusion energy.
