As a designated public corporation required by the Disaster Countermeasures Basic Act, etc., JAEA is required to provide personnel and technical support in the event of a nuclear disaster, etc. The NEAT participates in comprehensive nuclear emergency preparedness drills conducted by the national government, takes part in activities in collaboration with the Prime Minister's Office (Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters), the Nuclear Regulation Authority, the Japan Self-Defense Forces, local governments, and business entities, and implements support activities as a designated public corporation and contributes to the implementation of emergency preparedness drills through the Emergency Monitoring Center, evacuation exit inspections, and aircraft monitoring (flight and data analysis). In addition, We participate in nuclear emergency preparedness drills conducted by local governments, etc. We there support the establishment of effective disaster preparedness measures, such as advising on how to operate emergency monitoring centers, wide-area evacuation of residents, evacuation area inspections, verifying the flow of activities based on the characteristics of the locality, and making proposals for improvement based on the evaluation of drills.
In FY2021, the JAEA participated in the planning and training of the national nuclear energy disaster prevention drill (February 2022, Miyagi), practiced support activities as a designated public corporation, and contributed to implementation of the disaster prevention drill.

The JAEA also participated in the planning and training of the nuclear emergency drills of the local governments as shown in the table below. Specifically, the JAEA advised on the activities of the Emergency Monitoring Center (EMC) and the operation scheme of evacuation exit inspection, and verified flows of the drills planned by the local governments with consideration for the regional characteristics. Through these activities, the JAEA supported efforts of strengthening the basis of the nuclear disaster prevention conducted by local governments, and contributed to the establishment of effective disaster prevention measures as well.
