Status of Decommissioning Work

Introduction

After moving to the decommissioning stage in February 2008, Fugen has been working mainly on dismantling and removing the inside of the turbine building, and has been dismantling major equipment such as turbine generator so far.
In addition, we had systematically proceeded with decommissioning work such as carrying out heavy water (moderator) and removing tritium from heavy water and helium systems.

From 2018, we moved to the second stage of the decommissioning plan, the "Reactor Periphery Facilities Dismantling Period" and started dismantling and removing work for facility and equipment inside of reactor building. In addition, we are making various preparations for the next "reactor dismantling period", such as completing the transfer route for the dismantled materials.

Dismantling Work in Reactor Building

On the dismantling work of the facilities and equipments inside of the reactor building, about 2000 tons of the equipment in total are divided and dismantled in stages and the knowledge and data obtained there are used in the latter stage. They are reflected in the work and rationalized.
In addition, dismantling work will be carried out by dividing the work area into the areas for each mechanical device to improve our work efficiency and reduce costs.
The figure below shows the rough schedule of the dismantling and removal work of the equipment and facilities in the Reactor Building during the "Reactor Peripheral Facilities Dismantling Period" currently underway.

In the reactor containment vessel, from 2019 to 2022, we have completed the dismantling and removal of equipment and piping around the reactor, such as the reactor cooling system and emergency cooling system.
In the fall of 2022, we have started dismantling and removing work the remaining large equipment, and the heavy water and helium systems on the basement floor.
In addition, in the reactor auxiliary building, we are dismantling and removing facilities such as asphalt solidification equipment that have been finish in service.
