Japanese-made Major Equipment

The spirit of self-dependent development appeared in the fabrication of major equipments around the core, such as recirculation pump, safety relief valve and main steam isolation valve, which depended on the import at the commercial reactors at that time. The testing and development work for the fabrication advanced the skill and built up the confidence of researchers and engineers, concurrently raising the level of related manufacturing in Japan. Additionally, the technology and method for the full-scale testing have continued progressing and the level reflected on other domestic full-scale examination. They also contributed to improve the level of technology for Japan's nuclear development, and to raise and consolidate the industrial foundation.

Recirculation Pump
Pumps to provide forced circulation of coolant for the effective transfer of heat from fuels to the coolant.

Lower Header Check Valve
A valve installed in a pipe that connects lower header (a device to feed coolant to a core) and recirculation pump to prevent back flow.

Main Steam Isolation Valve
A valve installed before and behind part of the main steam pipe penetrating the containment vessel to prevent excessive release of reactor coolant.
