Recruitment theme
Theme: Advanced research on long-term stability of geological environment
This research theme aims to develop elemental techniques for precise estimation of short- and long-term geomorphic/geologic histories, including the processes, patterns and rates, based on approaches of Quaternary research, geomorphology, geology, geochronology, geochemistry and geophysics.
This research theme is carried out as part of projects funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). This recruitment assumes that METI entrusts the project to JAEA.
The subthemes concerning this recruitment are as below:
(1) Research and development for better understanding the Quaternary geological environment change by means of diverse research field such as geochemistry, geochronology, geomorphology, geology or geophysics.

Qualification requirements
(1) Applicants must have a PhD degree in the related research field (including applicants who will receive their doctoral degree by the time of employment). Applicants must be within 8 years of receiving their PhD.
(2) Having work experience on research related to any of geochemistry, geochronology, Quaternary science, geomorphology, geology or geophysics (especially TCN geochronology using iodine-129, instrumental analysis and pretreatment of trace elements, topographic interpretation and topographic change analysis, crush zone survey, seismic tomography).
Terms of employment
(1) Salary: approximately JY400,000 per month (including social insurance fee and tax)
(2) Allowance: Commutation and housing allowances are paid according to employees.
(3) Working Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm. (There is possibility to work over time)
(4) Intermission: 12:00pm - 13:00pm
(5) Holiday: Weekend (Saturday and Sunday), national holidays, year-end holidays, paid holidays.
(6) Social Insurance, etc.: Health insurance, welfare pension insurance, corporate pension fund, unemployment insurance, workers accident compensation insurance.
(7) Welfare: Institute family resident and dormitory are available.
(8) Trial period: 6 months.

Contract term(tentative)
From October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022
(The contract term can be extended up to March 31, 2023 upon annual review of research achievements and upon the funding)
Travel Expenses
We will cover your travel expenses in Japan for the recruitment examination in accordance with JAEA travel allowance regulations.
