    1. Number of employees

      Researcher: 1 person

    2. Recruitment theme

Theme: Study on failure behaviors of light water reactor fuels during design basis accident
Japan Atomic Energy Agency will conduct a program sponsored by Nuclear Regulation Authority, Japan (NRA), which is entitled “Entrusted research regarding disaster prevention measures for nuclear facilities (Research on fuel failure related to improvement of safety regulation)”. In this program, the engineering knowledge and the evaluation method related to retention of core coolability will be developed with particular focus on LWR fuel behaviors under design basis accident (DBA) conditions and post-DBA conditions. As a part of this program, development of experimental techniques and experiments with qualified methodologies are being performed on mechanical loadings experienced by fuel cladding under accident conditions: cyclic loading by seismic forces anticipated after a loss-of-coolant accident and biaxial loading by fuel cladding mechanical interaction during a reactivity initiated accident. In this study, as a member of the research group, the researcher is expected to lead the investigation of fuel behaviors and their impacts on core coolability through development, testing, and analysis of acquired data. In particular, the researcher is expected to promote understanding on physics of fuel failure phenomena and improve evaluation methods.
(This work will be conducted as a part of the program on “Entrusted research regarding disaster prevention measures for nuclear facilities (Research on fuel failure related to improvement of safety regulation)”, which is supported by NRA.)
