      (Summary)
      Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) implements capacity building assistance and technological development for nuclear nonproliferation and security. This is a contribution to the world for the peaceful use of atomic energy by using JAEA’s knowledge and technologies. The researcher of this recruitment surveys the newest trends of capacity building assistance and technological development, analyzes the information, and joins JAEA activities.
      The researcher will take a lecturer part in capability building training courses on nondestructive analyzing methods and the other capabilities. He/she also participates in research and development project for nuclear detection and measurement. One of the development subjects is delayed gamma-ray spectroscopic analysis (DGA), a non-destructive assay technique to measure fissile nuclides using gamma rays from neutron-induced fission products. The tasks of the researcher are to survey the latest technologies of neutron source, gamma-ray detector, etc.; to perform simulation studies; and to assist in system development.

      (This survey and research will be implemented under the grant for "promotion of strengthening nuclear security or the like" of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology – Japan))

    5. Salary and benefits

      Commensurate salary with the applicant’s work experience. Social insurance and commutation allowance are provided. Institute family residence and singles’ dormitories are available.

    6. Terms of employment

      Contract term: One year
      (The total contract term between the employer and JAEA can be extended for five years under the condition of approval of annual review of research achievements and of the grant from MEXT.)
      A position as permanent staff (tenure) could be offered upon achieving outstanding results during your temporary employment.

    7. Trial employment period

      6 months

    9. Qualification requirements

      (1) Having PhD in the field related to the research theme in addition to experience as a post-doctoral position for at least one year.

      (2) An applicant who has knowledge of nuclear safeguards and security, as well as experience on measurement of neutrons and gamma-rays and on Monte-Carlo simulations is preferred.

    13. Application screening

      Examinees will be decided based on the review of application documents. The screening result will be notified by e-mail or post. Application documents will not be returned.

    21. Points to note

      (1) The candidate who passes the recruitment examination is required to submit medical certification written in English taken within 6 months (including height, weight, eyesight, urinalysis, chest X-ray).

      (2) Candidates without Japanese nationality are required to have the certificate of eligibility by the date of adoption in order to obtain a work permit in Japan.
