Research on micorobial effects on the simulated materials of fuel debris components
(Summary)
For the decommissioning of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F), the effects of microorganisms on the long-term properties of the nuclear fuel debris remaining in the damaged reactors are of special concern. It is therefore important to understand the interaction mechanism of microorganisms with fuel debris components under the physical/chemical conditions relevant to 1F. To this end, this position focuses on a comprehensive study to investigate the physical/chemical interaction between a wide range of microorganisms and simulated materials of fuel debris components (e.g. UO2, UO2+ZrO2, UO2+ZrO2+Fe, etc.) in the aqueous solution systems relevant to the conditions expected at 1F.

Commensurate salary with the applicant’s work experience, Social Insurance, Commutation allowance, Institute family residence and bachelor’s dormitory are available.
Terms of employment
Contract term: One year
(The contract term can be extended up to five years upon annual review of research achievements.)
Should you achieve outstanding results during your temporary employment, you could be offered a position as permanent Staff.

Qualification requirements
(1) Having a Ph.D.degree. In principle, having work experience for more than one year as a full-time teacher, full-time researcher, or post-doctoral fellow.
(2) It is requested that the applicant has considerable knowledge and experience in microbiological experiments and required chemical/biological analysis, such as cultivation, chemical analysis on solid- and liquid samples (e.g. HPLC, powder-XRD, SEM/EDS, etc.).
