Number of employees
Researcher: 1 persons
Recruitment theme
Theme: Study on progression of fuel degradation in severe accident conditions
Japan Atomic Energy Agency has progressed a R&D project entitled "numerical multi-scale/physics modeling of fuel assembly degradation in severe accident conditions" since JFY-2016. To clarify the core degradation, material relocation and structural degradation behavior in the severe accident conditions, experimental research to investigate melting and relocation behavior of core materials and detailed reaction mechanism of the materials is necessary. In this research program, as a member of the experimental test team, the researcher is expected to lead various experimental researches on fuel melting/degradation in high temperature steam atmosphere using experimental facilities, such as control blade degradation test facility, a fuel assembly component degradation test facility, and a molten corium mixing/phase separation test facility. Also, the researcher is expected to analyze the test results to develop mechanistic models on various individual steps of fuel melting/degradation, which will be detected in these experimental studies. The mechanistic models are based on coupling material science and thermos-physics.
(This work will be conducted as part of the R&D project on "Numerical multi-scale/physics modeling of fuel assembly degradation in severe accident conditions", which is supported by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.)
