      Research theme:
Research related to fabrication and analysis of irradiation behaviors of MOX fuel for fast
      (Summary)
Plutonium Fuel Development Center conducts research on MOX fuel for fast reactor to advance technologies of fabrication and evaluating irradiation behaviors. In order to produce MOX fuel, different kinds of raw material powders with different powder properties are necessary. Oxygen-to-metal ratio of MOX, which changes during fabrication processes, has a significant impact on the MOX properties. Therefore, studies on quantifying and understanding the effect of both powder properties and the MOX properties influenced by the change of O/M ratio are necessary for the advance of fabrication technologies. Regarding the evaluation of irradiation behaviors of MOX fuel, studies on quantifying, modeling, determining the influencing factor and revealing mechanism of MOX properties which change due to, for example, the accumulation of fission products by irradiation are needed. In this research theme, the above topics are studied by experimental approach using plutonium to contribute to the advance of technologies of fabrication and evaluating irradiation behaviors.
