      (1) Research field:
Fundamental research and development for decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F)

      (2) Job description
Evaluation of Accident Progression Behavior in the 1F

      (Summary)
Japan Atomic Energy Agency is gathering information necessary for addressing fuel debris retrieval from the damaged 1F units and their decommissioning. Accident progression behavior is to be evaluated for these units so that final fuel debris distribution, its characteristics and damaged structure conditions both in and out-side of the reactor pressure vessel can be estimated. As a part of this activity, accident progression behavior in each 1F-unit is to be simulated using severe accident analysis codes (SCDAPSIM for example) and CFD codes (including codes with the MPS method). In this simulation, it is important to keep consistency between simulated conditions and actually observed plant data (such as pressure) during the accident progression phase. The simulation includes, ①determination of vapor/hydrogen formation in the reactor pressure vessel and in the primary containment vessel, ②core melting and slumping to the lower plenum, ③interaction of slumped debris with the BWR-specific complicated structures in the lower plenum, and ④gradual relocation of high-viscosity or solid fuel debris to the pedestal region, and these items should be conducted with appropriate modification for the modeling where necessary. A researcher who can conduct evaluation of the accident progression behavior covering these items including above-mentioned model improvement is invited.
