    1. Number of employees

      Researcher 1 person

    2. Research field

      (1)Research field:
Computer Science Research for Computational Nuclear Engineering

      (2)Research theme
Development of accelerator driven multi-scale nuclear CFD codes

      (Summary)
JAEA promotes development of exascale CFD simulation technologies towards advanced nuclear CFD simulations related to environmental dynamics of radioactive substances, complex fluid dynamics of the reactor core at severe accidents, and thermal-hydraulic analysis for designing future nuclear systems. The above nuclear CFD simulations are multi-scale problems, which involve turbulent phenomena, and thus, high computing power driven by accelerators and advanced multi-scale simulation technologies are required. In this topic, the applicant is supposed to construct nuclear CFD codes based on the lattice Boltzmann method, which is a CFD method suitable for GPUs, and develop communication avoiding methods and efficient load balancing techniques for adaptive mesh refinement approaches, which are essential for multi-scale CFD simulations. Based on these advanced CFD simulation technologies, high precision and performance nuclear CFD simulations will be realized.
