Launch of a new nuclear data library JENDL-4.0 for nuclear research and development
-Improvement of reliability for advanced usage of light-water reactors and development of fast breeder reactors-

Apr. 15 , 2010

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has been continuing nuclear data evaluation which is needed for development of nuclear reactors including fusion reactors and accelerator usage for radioactive waste management. A new Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library JENDL-4.0 was completed in March 2010. The library will be open to public on the web page (until the end of May 2010). The users can freely use the new library (→http://wwwndc.jaea.go.jp/jendl/j40/j40.html)

The JENDL-4.0 library contains nuclear reaction data of 406 nuclides from hydrogen to fermium. The neutron energy covers the region needed for nuclear development. The data in the previous librarya, JENDL-3.3, were revised with adoption of recently measured data and with newly developed nuclear reaction model codes.

The main effort was focused on the evaluation of MA (Minor Actinide) and FP (Fission Product) nuclides. As the reliability of the newly evaluated data is increased comparing with the previous JENDL-3.3 data, it is expected that the reliability of burn-up calculation of nuclear fuel is highly improved. It is also expected that the data in the JENDL-4.0 library are able to be applied to not only nuclear energy development but also medical application and nuclear synthesis in the cosmos.
