20th Anniversary of Collaboration in the Field of Radioactive Waste Management with the Swiss National Cooperation for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste (Switzerland)

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA, President Toshio Okazaki) have been in collaboration with the Swiss National Cooperation for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste (Nagra, CEO Thomas Ernst) to study mainly on geological disposal of radioactive waste since JAEA and Nagra concluded the Arrangement in the Field of Radioactive Waste Management in 1988. This year is the 20th anniversary of collaboration, and an anniversary meeting was held on 29th September. In the meeting, JAEA and Nagra agreed to extend the terms of the Arrangement for a further 5 years and continue collaborative studies.

JAEA has proved very successful fruit by collaborative studies such as in-situ experiments at Grimsel Test Site of Nagra and development of numerical codes since the conclusion of Arrangement in 1988.
