Oct. 2, 2008

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (President Toshio Okazaki, JAEA) and Electricite de France (Senior executive vice-president Bernard Dupraz, Generation EDF) signed the arrangement for Technical Cooperation on the Fast Reactor Systems at Paris on October 1st 2008.

The new arrangement has now revised the previous arrangement for Technical Cooperation in the Operation and Maintenance of Superphnix and Monju between JAEA and EDF to expand the cooperation to fast reactor systems in the following areas:

(1)Design requirements and design concepts for commercial reactors and prototype/demonstration sodium-cooled fast reactors;
(2)Exchange of information concerning Superphnix, Joyo and Monju;
(3)Human resource development (education and training).

As mentioned above, under the revised arrangement, overseas reactor users requirements that will be obtained by direct information exchange are expected to provide positive feedback to Japans fast reactor development, and Joyo has been newly added for the exchange of information on operation and maintenance of fast reactors. Furthermore, fostering human resources who are engaged in fast reactor development will be enhanced.
