The 7th International Workshop on Polarized Neutrons in Condensed Matter Investigations(PNCMI2008) to be held as the 2nd International Symposium of Quantum Beam Science Directorate of JAEA (QuBS2008)

Aug. 29, 2008

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (under the President T. Okazaki) is organizing the 7th International Workshop on Polarized Neutrons in Condensed Matter Investigations, PNCMI2008, as the 2nd International Symposium of Quantum Beam Science Directorate of JAEA (QuBS2008) in Tokai, Ibaraki, Japan from Sept. 1(Mon) to 5(Fri) 2008.
This is the seventh workshop in the PNCMI series, which have been held every second year (previous PNCMI locations: 1996:Dubna(Russia); 1998:Grenoble(France); 2000:Gachina(Russia); 2002:Juelich(Germany); 2004:Washington DC(USA); 2006:Berlin(Germany)) and the first to be organized in Japan. The workshop will cover the forefront of condensed matter investigations using polarized neutrons and state-of-the-art methodologies and technologies of polarized neutron production and utilization for novel instrumentations and experiments, thus providing opportunities to discuss prospects for new science and new instrument concepts. The complementarities of various polarized quantum beams, such as synchrotron x-rays and muons, will be also discussed. It is very timely that this workshop is going to be held in Tokai this time, where one of the world leading neutron science center with the neutron facilities both at J-PARC spallation source and at JRR-3 steady state source is presently being established.
