Three Organizations Concluded "Joint Research Agreement for the Pioneering R&D with Quantum Beam Technology", Providing Innovative Progress through Mutual Utilization of Quantum Beam Facilities and Interchange of Personnel

Dec. 20, 2006

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) and RIKEN (hereinafter referred as Three Organizations) agreed to concentrate their world-class instruments and research potentials in the quantum beam science on pioneering R&D activities. They signed the "Joint Research Agreement for the Pioneering R&D with Quantum Beam Technology" on December 20, 2006, helping to provide innovative progress with international competitiveness.

To promote specific cooperation under this Agreement, Research Cooperation Council will be established. The Council will initiate investigation on the specific plans of research programs, which will greatly contribute to promoting domestic industry, improving peoples welfare and returning R&D outcomes.
Three Organizations are operating world-leading quantum beam facilities, such as neutron sources, synchrotron radiation facilities, ion irradiation facilities, and so on. NIMS is a world-class leader in developing new materials, RIKEN has the strongest advantages in life and material sciences, and JAEA is a front runner of quantum beam science. They will concentrate these advantages on effective development and efficient promotion of research under this Agreement.
