Research on Chemical Reactions and Characteristics of Sodium
--Sodium-Hydrogen Jet Combustion*--
Tsurusoken made experimental equipment and conducted several experiments with sodium and hydrogen to simulate a severe accident.
* Sodium-Hydrogen Jet Combustion is a phenomenon in which hydrogen gas containing sodium vapor or mist burns as a burner-shaped flame.
"How Does Hydrogen Burn?"
Schematic diagram of how hydrogen gas is generated in a severe accident
We injected the mixed hot sodium mist with hydrogen gas into the experimental chamber, and measured the process of flame formation.
We clarified that the ignition mechanism and process of hydrogen gas containing sodium mist.
We confirmed that hydrogen gas ignited around the burned sodium mist and burned successively as a burner-shaped flame without staying in the chamber.
