The Sector of Nuclear Safety Research and Emergency Preparedness performs nuclear safety research on severe accident and other important events in nuclear installations from the viewpoints of continuous improvement of nuclear safety, according to the requirements of Nuclear Regulation Authority based on the lessons learned from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Accident.

As one of the designated public institutions based on the Disaster Countermeasures Basic Act and the Armed Attack Situations Response Act, we also cope with an emergency response and conduct training of people involved in the nuclear emergency as preparation in the normal situation.

Through these activities, we provide technical support to the nuclear regulatory administration and contribute to the strengthening of the nuclear disaster prevention system for related administrative organisations and local authorities.
