One of the missions of JAEA Washington DC Office is to collect and evaluate political, scientific and industrial information related to nuclear energy and technology in the US and Canada.  In addition, we are responsible for coordinating cooperation arrangements between JAEA and US government and its institutions.  We also provide many kinds of supports for JAEA employees who are assigned in US for a long term as well as for a short business trip.

With regard to collection and analysis of the information, we monitor the US government policy, safety regulation, and R&D trend related to nuclear energy by taking part in the meetings held by the US Congress, the government agencies such as the Department of Energy (DOE), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and national laboratories.  We also analyze the reports issued by them and provide the results on a regular basis.

Concerning the support for cooperation arrangements with US Government organizations, we mainly arrange and participate in the negotiations with DOE and NRC.  In addition, we organize and coordinate regular meetings and expert meetings with national laboratories based on the arrangements, serving as a liaison office.
