On March13 to 14, 2012, “Seminar on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security for Vietnam Electricity (EVN)” was held at the Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN) of JAEA. This seminar was aimed at developing the understanding of nuclear nonproliferation, safeguards, and nuclear security in Vietnam. The 15 participants were mainly experts from EVN.
During the two-day seminar, the participants learned about the international frameworks of nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security as well as IAEA’s safeguards. The Virtual Reality (VR) training system of ISCN was demonstrated with an exercise on nuclear physical protection (PP). Also, they toured the Tokai No. 2 Nuclear Power Station tp facilitate their understanding on lectured topics.
The participants demonstrated great interest in not only the seminar content but also the simulated practice using the VR system for PP. Plans are proceeding for building a nuclear power station in Vietnam. Therefore, they asked specific questions such as building costs and vigorously exchanged their opinions with Japanese lecturers.
