A workshop on Nuclear Security Recommendations on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and Nuclear Facilities (INFCIRC225/rev.5) was held on September 5th and 6th in cooperation with Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and DOE/NNSA SNL. The course was supported by Japanese governmental agencies including the Japan Atomic Energy Commission, the National Police Agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). The number of participants rose to 90, mainly includinggovernmental officials, regulators, operators and industry specialists.

During the two-day workshop, the participants learned the difference between Rev. 4 and Rev. 5 and how they relate to the current situation of physical protection systems in Japan.

Group exercises followed each lecture. The participants discussed how their facilities or agencies are implementing Rev. 4 and how they can improve their systems based on the provisions of Rev. 5.
