ACHIEVEMENTS IN DEVELOPMENT OF

 Development of Computer Aided Technology

Since the commencement of plant operation, computer systems have been developed and introduced for the purpose of improving operation and maintenance management in Fugen. In recent years, many systems have been developed using state of the art computer hardware and software. These technologies have enabled systematization of the know-how of operators and maintenance personnel, which was considered difficult in the past, and have produced significant results in the advancement and systematization of technologies accumulated in Fugen.

 (1) Fuzzy Algorithm Application Control System

Fuzzy algorithm was invented out of consideration of the limits of definite logical system traditionally applied to the control system. The control systems employed this algorithm have prospects of fulfilling better control characteristic than that of PID (Proportional Integral Differential) control system.
Since the operation of reactor feedwater control at low power required a delicate operation technique and involved in using knowledge and experience of operators, the application of fuzzy algorithm was deemed to be effective in Fugen. The new control system was put into practical use in 1992 after development in the
pilot system. The reactor feedwater control system regulates the flow rate of feedwater to keep the steam drum water level at the given set value. Just like manual control by experienced operators, the fuzzy control system can derive controlled variables based not only on the steam drum water level, but also on the process data, such as the reactor power and feedwater flow. Therefore, its good performance comparable to that of experienced operators can be realized.

The fuzzy control system which was started its development in 1986 was applied in practice to the feedwater control system in 1992.
