　Achievements of Reprocessing

Since September 1981, Fugen has loaded MOX fuels using plutonium recovered at Tokai reprocessing plant of JNC. The plant has reprocessed total of 1009 ton (4779 fuel assemblies) after the commencement of its operation in September 1977. Approximately 70 ton was reprocessed from Fugen's spent fuel and 10 ton of which was spent MOX fuel (Type A). In the process of the operation, the similarity to LWR fuel characteristics in shearing, dissolution, clarification of solution and extraction of plutonium/uranium were confirmed. Equally, the safe and stable reprocessing was demonstrated.
The plutonium recovered in the reprocessing plant has been distributed to "Joyo", "Monju" and "Fugen". About the quarter of the recovered plutonium is used as MOX fuel at Fugen. Along with Fugen's operation using plutonium, the reprocessing plant cumulated its reprocessing record and acquired related technologies in reprocessing, criticality safety control, safeguard system, and so on.
