Recruitment Field
Research Theme:Computing radiation dose rates in the environment to high precision based on the findings of radionuclide redistribution calculations
(Summary)
Since the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Accident, radioactivity has been dispersed widely in the environment in North-East Japan. It has become a very important issue for any residents to accurately predict radiation dose rates in future. However, the deposition of radionuclides occurred on very complex terrains with including both man-made structures and naturally featured land topographies. Thus, it is necessary to consider the scattering and shielding effects by these 3D structures to accurately calculate dose rates. In this theme, the project is to develop a tool allowing calculation of these effects, apply the tool in practice, validate it, and make continuous improvements. Furthermore, since redistribution of radionuclides in the environment depends on the chemical form, the project goal is to employ the results of redistribution calculations to evaluate and predict dose rates for the future.
