“Basic research on Fe(II)-Si interactions and their impact on high-level radioactive waste (vitrified waste) dissolution”
Experimental and modeling studies on geochemical interactions between Fe(II) and Si and between Fe(II) and glass will be performed under the reducing conditions assuming the deep underground environment in order to understand the mechanisms of Fe(II)-Si solid phase formation and its kinetics, and the impact of Fe(II) on HLW glass dissolution under geological disposal conditions.
This subject will be conducted as a part of “The project for validating assessment methodology in geological disposal system” funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

Qualification requirements
Candidates must have a doctor degree in the related research field (including applicants who will receive their doctor degree by the time of employment). The candidates should have the techniques of geochemical experiments including analytical techniques and the knowledges of geochemical modeling.
Terms of employment
(1) Salary and other benefits
The salary will be about 450,000 Japanese Yen per month including social insurance costs and tax. Additional benefits will include a commutation allowance, a single or family residence available at the Institute dormitory.

8:30am-5:00pm
(3) Holiday
Weekends (Saturday and Sunday), National holidays, Year-end holidays, other paid holidays according to JAEA

Contract term (tentative)
From October 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. (The contract term can be extended up to March 31, 2018 upon annual review of research achievements and upon the funding of the project.)
Travel expenses
We will pay local travel expenses for the recruitment examination according to the JAEA’s provision. (ticket between Narita and Tokai). Detailed information will be provided to the candidates.

Points to note
(1) Applicants who pass the document examination are supposed to submit medical certificate taken within 6 months (including height, weight, eyesight, urinalysis, chest X-ray).
(2) Candidates without Japanese Nationality are required to have the certificate of eligibility by the date of adoption in order to obtain a work permit in Japan.
