      Researcher 1 person

    2. Research field

      (1)Research field:
Study on debris ofrmation mechanism by thermodynamics approach for equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions

      (2)Research theme
Retrieval of fuel debris will start at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station within a few years and the increase in retrieved amount is expected in a near future. Japan Atomic Energy Agency has analyzed probable accident scenarios using severe accident analysis codes and relevant advanced analytical methods. Based on the analyzed results, debris characterization and evaluation of the damage of structural materials are ongoing using advanced materials science approaches. Failure mechanism of lower head of reactor pressure vessel, debris relocation sequence from the pressure vessel and debris accumulation in the pedestal inside are essentialy important in these studies. Thermodynamic approach for equilibrium and non-equilibirum conditions can provide useful information on these subjects. We are looking for a researcher for this R&D theme, who is expected to develop debris melting/solidification models by thermodynamic approach and to carry out validation experiments using U-bearing sim-debris.
