JAEA and the UK National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) have agreed to renew the Technical Co-operation Agreement.

April 13, 2023

In 2001, JAEA and NNL*1 concluded the Technical Co-operation Agreement and have been co-operating with the focus on the areas of nuclear fuel cycle and radioactive waste management as well as advanced reactors.

With the current Agreement expiring later this month, an Agreement was renewed to further strengthen the co-operation for another five years in the presence of Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, UK, and IDE Yosei, State Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan.

JAEA will continue to contribute to the Green Transformation (GX) policy to realise a sustainable society through international co-operation in nuclear R&D under our vision of “Explore a New Future with the Synergy of Nuclear and Renewable”.

*1 At the time, their respective predecessor organisations, the Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute, and the British Nuclear Fuel Limited, signed the Agreement.
