JAEA has a mission to develop the fast reactor (FR) as a Japanese basic technology of national importance. FRs and the related fuel cycle provide sustainable energy to humans for thousands years.

Monju is the development core of the FR technology in Japan. And I am convinced that it contributes to the world as well.

Monju restarted its System Start-up Test (SST) on May 6, 2010 following 14 year 5 month suspension after the sodium leak event occurred in 1995. We propel the SST and succeeding full power operation steadily and safely targeting to complete the original missions of Monju: ‘demonstrating reliability as power plant’ and ‘establishing sodium handling technology’.
