Main schedule of Fugen decommissioning
|
It is necessary for safe and effective decommissioning to arrange the preparation
work of decommissioning. (e.g. necessary technical development, transfer
of spent fuels from nuclear power station). As for decommissioning, “Policy of security and safety regulation related to decommissioning of Nuclear reactor facility for practical power generation (Advisory Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Nuclear safety and security committee and decommissioning safety subcommittee, June 5th, 2000)” states that “Decommissioning project should be completed within 30 years as the temporary prospect.” In addition, we will study effective schedule considering safety. |

| Decommissioning of Fugen will be carried out in consideration of standard schedule of commercial reactor after transfer of all spent fuels. And several preparations as follows will be advanced during that period. In addition, some appropriate procedures will be carried out if necessary. |
- Equipment is maintained and controlled properly considering safety
- The fuel is safely stored in spent fuel storage pool after speedy unloading from the core for security of equipment and effective management of plant
- Stored spent fuels are transferred systematically according to the reprocessing plan of Tokai Reprocessing Center
- Heavy water in the reactor is transferred to outside facility after storage in the tank of reactor auxiliary building. In addition, Heavy water system is stored by dryness method after recovery of heavy water.
- Unique technology development of Fugen and data collection of safety evaluation are studied for establishment of the decommissioning project. And existing technologies are improved and upgraded.
- Radioactive wastes, which are stored and will be generated in future, are treated properly by introducing necessary treatment system for reduction or stabilization.
- Waste disposal are carried out properly considering waste disposal business such as RI and laboratory, etc.
- Decommissioning work is sufficiently advanced considering local employment and economy.
