The Japan Atomic Energy Agency had opened the Aomori Office at Rokkasho in Aomori prefecture in April 2006 for site preparation of the Broader Approach (BA) Project, which is joint implementation project between Japan and European Union, and for multilateral activities of JAEA in Aomori prefecture including the support for nuclear fuel cycle business.

The broader approach site has been decided to Iyasakadaira-D area in Rokkasho in November 2006 after due consultation with authorities concerned, and the Government of Japan and European Union has signed in the document of the Agreement of Broader Approach Project in February 2007. The development of the site for BA activities in Rokkasho will start in the beginning of FY 2007.

The Organization which is unified the Aomori Office and Mutsu Establishment has been newly established in Rokkasho in April 2007 to progress the research and development activities of JAEA as an efficient and unified Organization in Aomori prefecture. We would like to progress the activities of the research and development of nuclear energy under the JAEA principle course of action.
